MIUI 15.5 release date, device update list, features

At the end of 2023, Xiaomi could have released MIUI 15, the next major update to its operating system, which is based on Android 14 (with Android 13 support). But instead, the new HyperOS was released, which brings a number of new features and functions to Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones.

The release date is 26 Jan 2024. Xiaomi is busily testing beta versions of the new shell for several smartphone and tablet models. The first to receive it is the new Redmi K60 Ultra.

MIUI 15 release date

On 17 October 2023, Lei Jun – Chinese entrepreneur, founder and CEO of Xiaomi, officially announced HyperOS. The new Android-based OS is deployed in Xiaomi’s ecosystem of products including smartphones and was unveiled on 23 October 2023.

Xiaomi sticks to a one-year MIUI update cycle. But while they used to release slowly in spring, summer or autumn, after MIUI 12.5, Xiaomi developers have changed their approach to testing and releasing shell updates.

MIUI versions release dates:

  • MIUI 6 — August 29, 2014
  • MIUI 7 — August 13, 2015
  • MIUI 8 — June 16, 2016
  • MIUI 9 — August 10, 2017
  • MIUI 10 — June 19, 2018
  • MIUI 11 — October 22, 2019

  • MIUI 13 — December 28, 2021
  • MIUI 14 — December 11, 2022
  • HyperOS — October 26, 2023

The text below is no longer relevant due to the release of HyperOS. But we will keep it here as a reminder.

Based on the release dates of MIUI 13 and 14, we can assume that the new OS version will be introduced in late 2023. We wait for Xiaomi’s official announcement.

As usual, the first presentation in December will show the Chinese version of the OS, then the global models will receive the update. Flagships will be the first updated, followed by mid-priced smartphones. The last in line are budget phones.

The upcoming shell is currently in the testing phase. If all works according to plan, MIUI 15 beta will be available as early as September or October 2023.

MIUI 15 device list

Early beta tests of MIUI 15 are already underway for some flagship models, including the Xiaomi 12T smartphones, Xiaomi 13 Pro and the Xiaomi Pad 6 tablet. Both MIUI 15 Chinese and global versions are participating in the test.

To understand which phones will get the MIUI 15 update, remember that Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO update 2-3 years. The operating system will be compatible with all devices sold in 2023. Many models with released Android 13-based firmware will also receive the update.

Each updated version of Xiaomi’s operating system depends on the Android version on which it is based. In this case, it’s Android 14. Developers don’t need to adapt older smartphones to MIUI 15 because of the Android framework.

Xiaomi’s official website publishes information about device support in advance — the Xiaomi EOS List, which lists models with Android 14 support. MIUI 14 does not support Android 14. Accordingly, all devices supporting this Android version will get MIUI 15.

MIUI 15 release schedule is too early to publish, but Android 14 release status can already be tracked:

Android 14 Beta testing for Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 12T, Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 and Xiaomi Pad 6 officially started in May 2023. To download Android 14 Global Beta 1 for Xiaomi, follow the appropriate link at bigota.d.miui.com:

How to install Android 14 Global Beta on Xiaomi: Unlock the bootloader and use Fastboot Mode to install the firmware. It is imperative to remember that this is a beta version — it may be unstable and various bugs are possible.

Along with Xiaomi devices, eight Pixel smartphone models, Nothing Phone 1, OnePlus 11, Oppo Find N2 Flip, Realme GT2 Pro and several other manufacturers are participating in the Android 14 beta test.

Which phones might not get MIUI 15:

  • Mi 10S and Redmi 10 series (Redmi 10, 10 Power, 10C, 10 India, 10X, 10X 5G) — there are chances of the update release, but due to hardware limitations of the phones, MIUI 15 may not be out for them.
  • Mi 10 series (Mi 10 Lite 5G, Youth, 10T Lite, 10i 5G, Mi 10, 10 Pro, 10 Ultra, 10T, 10T Pro) — almost all the Mi 10 series phones are on the EOS list. The likelihood of them upgrading to MIUI 15 is zero.
  • Redmi K30 series (Redmi K30, K30 5G, K30 Racing, K30i, K30S, K30 Pro) — Redmi K30 series devices are gradually being included in the EOS list. The likelihood of them being updated is about zero. Perhaps an exception will be made for the top-end models, but it’s unlikely.
  • Redmi Note 9 series (Redmi Note 9, 9 5G, 9T, 9 Pro, 9 Max, 9S) — the situation is similar to the Redmi K30 series (the lineup of devices on the EOS list).
  • Redmi Note 10 series is a candidate for inclusion on the EOS list. Updating this line of phones to MIUI 15 is unlikely.
  • Redmi 9 series (Redmi 9C, 9C, 9A, 9 Prime, 9i, 9 Power, 9T) — don’t expect an update to MIUI 15. Some of the phones are already on the EOS list.
  • Redmi A1, A1 Plus and POCO C40, C50 are budget models that haven’t even received MIUI 14 by the time MIUI 15 is released. They won’t be updated to the latest version of the operating system.
  • POCO F1, X2, M2 Pro — included in the EOS list and no longer updated.
  • POCO F2 Pro, M2, M3, X3, X3 NFC — the probability of getting MIUI 15 tends to be zero due to hardware limitations. Don’t count on these models to be updated.
